Alleev
Looking at the archetypal vegetable peeler, I was faced with the issue of inaccessibility for those who could not utilise this tool with such a tight grip. Namely, the growing segment of our population faced with issues of arthritis and joint pain, particularly concerning the hand. As we grow older, simple tasks become more difficult, and I set out to redesign a simple tool within our day to day lives in order to create a more accessible utensil for all to enjoy.
Starting out with such a simple idea, I begun by better understanding the affliction, and sought out a design that featured gentler, rounder curves in order to relieve stress upon the many joints in ones hand. This resulted in a design in stark contrast to what we are used to seeing, and an item that manages to sit comfortably in the palm of ones hand rather than the base of the fingers.
Alleev. A new take on the vegetable peeler, with a focus on accessibility and ease of use for people of all ages, and a design that caters for those suffering from joint pain without drawing attention to it.
