CID

Introducing CID, a modern piece of commercial furniture design aimed at the Melbourne market. With the name derived from its three main frame forms, CID is a sturdy and reliable product made out of extremely durable 6mm thick mild steel that is designed to meet the rigours of daily use in public and domestic settings. With a sound structure, and convincing design CID manages to tread the fine line between form and functionality.

A strong sheet metal frame featuring two pieces of simple fabric upholstery, CID is my interpretation of a bucket chair. My design process was largely based upon my desire to work with metal, and an urge to explore an open looking piece of furniture with a minimalistic feel to it. With this in mind, I followed my trail of ideas and sketches into the 3 dimensional realm.

After a lengthy process of design refinement, and physical prototyping I worked alongside metal fabricators in order to create the best solution possible for my vision. The mild steel frame is laser cut from sheet metal, then powder coated and upholstered to the highest of standards in order to deliver what you see in front of you now.
